Express Permit is a self-issued permit that is meant to be used specifically for simple RESIDENTIAL projects that do not require plan review or approvals. For example: water heater replacement, air conditioning or heating unit replacement, drain repair, lighting, electrical panel replacement, etc. Express Permits are utilized for standalone work or for projects where the building permit has already been issued.

Express Permits

STEP 1
Online Permit Application

Express Permits are available to be submitted online ONLY. A permit can only be issued to a contractor with the appropriate license(s), to the property owner in certain cases or to an authorized agent representing one of these two applicants. Please note, these applications are utilized for standalone work or for projects where the building permit has already been issued.

STEP 2
Payment of Permit Fees

Fees for the permit are automatically invoiced and ready to pay when adding to cart. Permit holder pays all required fees online either by credit card or e-check.

STEP 3
Permit Issued and Important Documents

After all required fees are successfully paid, the building permit is automatically issued, permit holder can commence work. Important documents such as the issued building permit, job card, and inspection instructions as well as previously uploaded documents can be found in the Attachments of the permit case.

STEP 4
Request Inspection

Inspections are requested online via the Request Inspection menu on EPIC-LA. For detailed instructions on how to request inspection, please click here.
Permit holder shall request an inspection within 12 months of issuance of the permit to avoid permit expiration. Follow up inspection must be requested every 180 days.
